Bollywood star Alia Bhatt attended the Metropolitan Museum of Art Gala in New York for the second time on Monday and was the center of attention in a 23-foot heavily embroidered 'Sabyasachi Designer' saree.

This pale green saree was designed by fashion designer Sabyasachi, which was the embodiment of 'The Garden of Time' dress code.

This year's gala dress code is inspired by a short story of the same title written by JG Ballard in 1962.

Alia Bhatt's sari featured delicate hand embroidery in silk thread, glass, pearls and precious stones, giving a glimpse into the glorious life of Count Axel and his wife, similar to Ballard's story.

Alia told fashion magazine Vogue before attending: 'The design of the sari, with its transparent, glass-like appearance, is not only a nod to the true quality of Ballard's fairy tale garden, but also to the exquisite craftsmanship of the sari. It also pays tribute to enduring talent.'

He added: 'What drew me to this dress was its bold concept and how it combines traditional craftsmanship with unconventional aesthetics. 'Sabiasachi, known for bringing together the ancient world and modern sophistication, was the perfect choice to encapsulate the theme of this year's Met Gala.'

In an Instagram post, Alia Bhatt detailed the work that went into her favorite saree, writing that it was created in India by a team of 163 artisans, including artisans, dyers and embroiderers. It took about 1965 hours to make.

In designing Alia Bhatt's blouse, Sabyasachi took inspiration from her Indian heritage and used precious emeralds, basra pearls, sangberoj and multi-colored sapphires to add a touch of glamor to the outfit.

To add four more moons to the beauty, Alia Bhatt's hair was adorned with a bejeweled jhumka and shoulder-length earrings that included Sabyasachi accessories like gemstones and diamonds.

This is the second time a dress designed by Sabyasachi has been seen at the Met Gala. Earlier Natasha Poonawalla wore his saree in 2022.

The designer told Vogue: 'I have the honor of creating India's signature garment, the sari, which has been around for generations. This saree is embellished with a multi-technique craftsmanship and for Alia Bhatt, this dress is the epitome of her lifelong expertise.'

He added: 'This dress represents the history and pride of Indian craftsmanship which I have dedicated my career to promoting, preserving and protecting.'

This is Alia Bhatt's second appearance at the Met Gala after her star performance in the Netflix film 'Heart of Stone'. On her debut last year, she wore a gown designed by Prabal Gurung.

Users on social media reacted enthusiastically to Alia's style, especially her wearing a saree at an international event.

The theme of this year's Met Gala was 'Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion'.

This year, the gala coincides with the opening of the Costume Institute's annual exhibition, which showcases 50 historical fashion costumes, some of which have decayed to the point of being wearable. Are not.
