Pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca said on Tuesday that it has started a worldwide recall of its Covid-19 vaccine due to an "oversupply of new vaccines" since the pandemic.


According to Reuters, 

the company also said it would withdraw marketing authorization for the vaxvirus vaccine in Europe.


The company said that "multiple types of vaccines have been developed for Covid-19 and the number of new vaccines available since then has reduced demand for the vaccine virus, which is no longer manufactured or supplied." is being done.'


According to media reports, the pharmaceutical company had previously admitted in court documents that the vaccine causes side effects such as blood clots and a decrease in the number of platelets in the blood.


According to The Telegraph, which first reported the development, the company's request to withdraw the vaccine was made on March 5 and took effect on May 7.


According to The Guardian, on May 7, the European Medicines Agency issued a notice that the AstraZeneca vaccine is no longer authorized for use.


London-registered AstraZeneca began developing vaccines for respiratory syncytial virus and obesity drugs through several deals last year after growth slowed after sales of its Covid-19 drug fell.

According to the British newspaper The Guardian,

  AstraZeneca will change the name of its Covid vaccine to Vaxservia in 2021. This vaccine was administered to people 18 years of age and older. Some countries also use it as a booster shot.


The vaccine has also come under intense scrutiny in recent months due to adverse side effects.


According to the Telegraph, the vaccine causes blood clotting and low platelet count.


The company admitted in court documents submitted to the High Court in February that the vaccine 'may cause TTS in very rare cases.'


TTS stands for

Thrombosis with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome which has caused at least 81 deaths and injured hundreds of people in the UK.


According to the Telegraph, more than 50 alleged victims and their relatives are suing Esra Zenka in the High Court.
